Data uses games played through Feb. 21

This update brings a hefty amount of changes as Virginia takes over the #1 overall seed following Duke’s loss to North Carolina, which sends the Blue Devils down to #2 and the Tar Heels up to #7 overall.

It feels like just about every bubble team took a bad loss this week, which means seedings around the cut line have all jumbled up. Entering the field is Florida, moving immediately past the last four in to a middle #11 seed position following their massive overtime victory against LSU. Also entering and making their first appearances in the field this season are Utah State and Temple, who have been consistently wavering around the first and next four out this whole month.

Of course, this means three teams have to drop (technically four, considering Liberty steals the auto-bid from the A-Sun and Lipscomb falls to the first four out). Making exits along with the Bison are Clemson, Butler, and Nebraska. The Cornhuskers, along with Indiana, look just about finished considering their records and remaining schedules, making it a likely eight – no more, no less – bids for the Big Ten this year.

Finally, Georgetown floats back into the picture after beating Villanova, jumping into the next four out. It’s still a long road to the tournament for the Hoyas, however. This weekend will prove important for many bubble teams. I predict a much clearer picture for Monday’s edition.
